Bounty Tracker is an action thriller from 1993 starring Lorenzo Lamas as a down-on-his-luck bounty hunter named Jack Walsh. The story is set in the fictional town of Hope Springs, Arizona, where crime and corruption run rampant. Jack is desperate for work and ends up taking on a job hunting down a dangerous fugitive named John Baines, who has murdered a federal judge.
But Jack soon discovers that he is not the only one after Baines. A group of corrupt cops, led by the ruthless Captain Stevens (played by Matthias Hues), are also on his trail, hoping to capture him and use him as a pawn in their own criminal activities. Jack teams up with a local waitress named Kate (played by Cyndi Pass) and her brother Eric (played by Eric Mansker) to bring Baines to justice and take down the corrupt cops once and for all.
The movie features plenty of action-packed sequences, including car chases, shootouts, and fistfights. Lorenzo Lamas delivers a solid performance as the tough-as-nails bounty hunter, and Matthias Hues is perfectly cast as the menacing villain. Cyndi Pass and Eric Mansker provide some comic relief as the bickering siblings who get caught up in the chaos.
Despite its low budget and occasionally cheesy dialogue, Bounty Tracker manages to deliver a satisfying genre experience. The film is well-paced and never drags, thanks to director Kurt Anderson's sharp editing and tight grip on the story. The desert setting gives the movie a gritty, Western feel, and the gunplay is suitably intense.
One of the highlights of Bounty Tracker is the car chase sequence early in the film, which sees Lamas chasing down Baines through the streets of Hope Springs. The scene is expertly staged and features some impressive stunt work, including Lamas leaping from his moving car onto Baines' vehicle.
Another standout moment is the final showdown between Jack and Baines, which takes place in an abandoned mine. The setting provides a claustrophobic atmosphere, and the action is intense and satisfying.
Bounty Tracker may not be a classic of the action genre, but it is a solid and entertaining movie that delivers the goods. Fans of Lorenzo Lamas and Matthias Hues will find plenty to enjoy here, and the supporting cast is strong as well. If you're in the mood for a low-budget, high-octane thriller, give Bounty Tracker a shot.
