Boiling Point is a 1993 action-drama movie that stars Wesley Snipes, Dennis Hopper, and Lolita Davidovich. Directed by James B. Harris, the movie follows the story of two men- Jimmy Mercer (Wesley Snipes) and Red Diamond (Dennis Hopper)- whose lives become intertwined in a case of stolen gasoline. It is said to be a neo-noir thriller and a character-driven drama.
The movie starts with Jimmy Mercer, an ATF agent, who is fed up with his job and decides to quit. During his last day at work, he gets involved in a gunfight with a drug dealer which ends up with them blowing up a gas station. This oil spill creates chaos, and Jimmy is blamed for it. When he returns to his car, he discovers that someone has stolen his car and the criminal who he was transporting. This encounter sets the stage for the rest of the story.
Meanwhile, Red Diamond, a con artist and a small-time criminal, discovers that his best friend Ronnie (Viggo Mortensen) has stolen a load of gasoline from a refinery. Red sees this as an opportunity to make some quick cash and takes the gasoline from Ronnie. He also finds a buyer for the gasoline but the deal is off, as the buyer realizes that the gasoline was stolen. Therefore, Red desperately tries to sell it on the black market, but he faces a lot of obstacles, including getting beaten up and kidnapped.
As both the stories progress, Jimmy Mercer and Red Diamond's paths cross, and the movie becomes a tense and exciting clash between the two characters. The plot intensifies as the stakes are raised consistently till the explosive climax, where the two characters confront each other head-on.
The acting performances in the movie are top-notch. Wesley Snipes' portrayal of Jimmy Mercer is intense and powerful, and he brings out the anger and frustration of the character with finesse. Dennis Hopper, on the other hand, plays Red with an unpredictable and manic energy that is both terrifying and enthralling. Lolita Davidovich, who plays Ronnie's girlfriend, gives a compelling performance as the femme fatale of the story.
The movie's direction is commendable, and the cinematography creates a dark and gritty atmosphere that complements the script. The movie also features some well-executed action scenes and thrilling chase sequences.
Overall, Boiling Point is a gripping and entertaining movie that keeps the audience engaged till the very end. It is a great example of a neo-noir crime thriller that combines action and drama with twists and turns all leading up to an explosive finale. While the movie may not have been a box-office success, it has since gained a cult following and remains a must-watch for fans of the genre.
