Blue City is a 1986 film directed by Michelle Manning, based on the novel of the same name by Ross Macdonald. The movie stars Judd Nelson as Billy Turner, a young man who returns to his hometown of Blue City after his father is murdered. There, he finds a corrupt city run by the criminals who killed his father, and must navigate the dangerous underworld to seek justice.
Ally Sheedy plays Annie Rayford, a former flame of Billy's who now works as a stripper at a local club. David Caruso plays Perry Kerch, a corrupt police officer who is in cahoots with the criminals running the town. Together, Billy, Annie, and a motley crew of allies work to take down the corrupt powers that be and uncover the truth behind Billy's father's murder.
The film is a classic 80s action movie, complete with cheesy one-liners and over-the-top fight scenes. Judd Nelson is a brooding, tough protagonist, with a tragic backstory that makes him sympathetic despite his rough exterior. Ally Sheedy is convincing as the sultry, troubled love interest, while David Caruso is slimy and duplicitous as the corrupt cop.
The movie is set in a gritty, run-down town full of seedy characters and dangerous figures. The cinematography is appropriately moody, with lots of dark alleys, neon lights, and rain-soaked streets. The music is also very 80s, with a pulsing, synth-heavy score that adds to the film's mysterious and tense atmosphere.
While Blue City is not the most groundbreaking or innovative film, it is an entertaining and satisfying piece of 80s cinema. It's a classic story of a lone hero taking on a corrupt system and fighting for justice, with plenty of action and suspense to keep the audience engaged. Fans of Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, or classic 80s movies in general will find a lot to enjoy in Blue City.
Blue City is a 1986 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 23 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.4 and a MetaScore of 18.
