Blackwater is a 2007 horror movie that takes place in the swamps of Louisiana. The plot revolves around a group of friends who decide to go on a weekend boating trip in the backwoods. Along for the ride are: Grace (Georgia Chris), the group’s take-charge leader; Jim (McCayne Blomberg), a loudmouthed, arrogant guy; and Michelle (Amy Simon), a sweet, shy girl who’s new to the group.

As they motor through the swamp, the group comes across a mysterious man in a boat, who warns them to turn back. They ignore his advice and carry on, and soon discover that they are not alone in the swamp. They are being stalked by a giant alligator that has a taste for human flesh.

The alligator attacks their boat and they are forced to take refuge on a small island in the middle of the swamp. They soon realize that their situation is dire and they will need to work together if they want to survive. But tensions run high as they struggle to stay alive, and secrets are revealed as the group begins to turn on each other.

Meanwhile, the alligator continues to circle the island, waiting for an opportunity to strike. As the group’s situation grows more desperate, each member of the group is forced to confront their own personal demons and decide what they are willing to do in order to survive.

The movie is notable for its suspenseful atmosphere and impressive use of practical effects. The alligator, in particular, is an impressive feat of puppetry and animatronics. The shots of the swamp are also quite beautiful, and lend the movie a sense of eerie isolation.

The acting in the movie is serviceable, if somewhat uneven. Georgia Chris gives a solid performance as Grace, the group’s leader, while Amy Simon is convincing as the fragile Michelle. McCayne Blomberg is perhaps the weakest link, playing the loud and obnoxious Jim with a bit too much gusto.

Overall, if you’re a fan of creature features or survival movies, Blackwater is definitely worth checking out. While it doesn’t break any new ground, the movie delivers on its promise of thrills and suspense, and is a decent addition to the genre.

Blackwater is a 2014 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 22 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.3.
