Bigfoot, released in 2012, is a low-budget horror-comedy movie directed by Bruce Davison. The movie, which features Danny Bonaduce, Barry Williams, and Davison himself, follows a group of amateur documentary filmmakers who set out to investigate the legend of Bigfoot in the forests of Northern California. The movie begins with Brian (Bonaduce), a radio personality, receiving a call from a woman who claims to have seen Bigfoot. Intrigued by the story, Brian convinces his friend, Duke (Williams), to join him on a trip to the forests of Northern California to investigate the sighting. With their equipment and camera crew in tow, the duo set off for the woods.
Once in the woods, Brian and Duke meet with Ranger Bob (Davison), a surly forest ranger who warns them about the dangers of the forest. Undeterred by his warnings, the group sets up their base camp and begins exploring the area.
As they venture deeper into the forest, the group begins to experience strange occurrences, including eerie howls and mysterious footprints. It isn't long before they encounter their first glimpse of Bigfoot, although the beast disappears before they can capture it on film.
Despite their initial excitement, the group soon begins to unravel as they're continually stalked by the creature. As tensions rise, the filmmakers begin to question their sanity and the validity of their mission. As they try to find their way out of the woods, the group is forced to confront their deepest fears and darkest secrets.
While the movie does have its shortcomings, it's clear that the filmmakers intended for Bigfoot to be a campy horror-comedy. The movie is self-aware and often pokes fun at itself, with Williams and Bonaduce hamming it up in their respective roles.
The movie's biggest strengths are its use of practical effects and setting. The forests of Northern California are beautifully shot and provide a hauntingly beautiful backdrop for the movie. The practical effects used to bring Bigfoot to life are surprisingly effective, especially considering the film's low budget.
In terms of acting, the standout performance comes from Davison, who plays Ranger Bob with a gruffness that belies his softer side. Bonaduce and Williams do their best to inject some humor into the movie, although their performances often come across as cheesy.
Overall, while Bigfoot may not be the most polished horror-comedy movie out there, it's an enjoyable romp through the woods with a beloved creature of legend. If you're in the mood for something that doesn't take itself too seriously, you could do worse than giving this movie a shot.
Bigfoot is a 2012 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 2.5.
