Big Trouble is a 2002 comedy film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and written by Robert Ramsey and Matthew Stone. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Dave Barry. The star-studded cast includes Tim Allen, Rene Russo, Stanley Tucci, Tom Sizemore, Johnny Knoxville, Dennis Farina, Janeane Garofalo, and Sophie Marceau. The movie is set in Miami, Florida, and follows the chaotic events triggered by a suitcase filled with a nuclear bomb. The suitcase belongs to two bumbling criminals, Snake and Eddie, who are planning to sell it to a group of terrorists. However, things don't go as planned, and the suitcase ends up in the hands of various characters, including a divorced couple, Arthur and Anna Herk, a pair of high school students, Matt and Jenny, a pair of hitmen, Henry and Leonard, and a homeless man, Puggy.
Arthur Herk is a struggling businessman who owes a large sum of money to a loan shark, while his ex-wife, Anna, is now married to a wealthy man, Arthur's former co-worker, Eliot Arnold. The two are forced to reunite when their son, Matt, gets involved in the chaos caused by the suitcase. Matt and his friend, Jenny, stumble upon the suitcase while they're skipping school and decide to open it. They discover the bomb and report it to the authorities, but their report is ignored due to a lack of evidence.
Meanwhile, Puggy, a homeless man who lives in the park, witnesses the transaction between Snake and Eddie and steals the suitcase. He tries to sell it to anyone who will buy it, but nobody believes him. He eventually meets up with Henry and Leonard, who are looking for the suitcase on behalf of their boss, the mysterious Mr. Loach. Puggy agrees to sell the suitcase to them for $10,000, but they end up double-crossing him and taking the suitcase without paying him.
As the various characters' paths cross, chaos ensues, and they all become entangled in the search for the suitcase. The movie follows their attempts to retrieve the suitcase, avoid the criminals, and prevent the bomb from detonating.
The movie is a classic screwball comedy, with a fast-paced plot and a talented cast. Tim Allen delivers a strong performance as Arthur Herk, the hapless businessman who is in over his head. Rene Russo is also excellent as Anna Herk, Arthur's ex-wife, who is caught up in the chaos despite her attempts to avoid it. Stanley Tucci plays Eliot Arnold, Anna's current husband, and Arthur's former colleague, with a perfect mix of sliminess and charm.
The supporting cast is also impressive, with standout performances from Tom Sizemore as the menacing loan shark, Johnny Knoxville as the clueless criminal Snake, and Dennis Farina as the tough-talking detective who is in charge of the bomb investigation.
The movie's humor is largely derived from the absurdity of the situation and the mismatched characters who are forced to work together. The film's slapstick comedy, witty one-liners, and zany characters make for an entertaining and enjoyable spectacle.
Overall, Big Trouble is an enjoyable and lighthearted comedy that is sure to make viewers laugh. The film's talented cast and fast-paced plot make for an entertaining and thrilling ride in this screwball comedy.
