Beyond the Clouds is a 2017 Indian drama film directed by Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi. The film tells the story of a brother and sister duo, Aamir and Tara, who are reunited after a long time when Aamir ends up in prison for drug dealing. Set in the bustling city of Mumbai, Beyond the Clouds showcases the gritty and tough life of the people who live there. Aamir (played by Ishaan Khattar), a street-smart young man, is a drug dealer who dreams of a better life. He works for his uncle, Akshi (played by Gautam Ghose), who is a gangster and keeps Aamir on a tight leash. Aamir's life takes a turn for the worse when he is caught by the police in a drug bust and is sent to jail.
Meanwhile, Aamir's sister, Tara (played by Malavika Mohanan), who lives in a slum with her mother, also faces her fair share of struggles. She works in a laundry and tries to make ends meet. When she hears about Aamir's arrest, she sets out to find him and ends up meeting Akshi, who she despises.
The film follows the journey of Tara and Aamir as they try to set things right in their lives. Tara teams up with Akshi to earn money to bail out her brother, but soon realizes that his intentions are not pure. Aamir, on the other hand, joins forces with a group of kids who live in the streets and who help him smuggle drugs into the jail. His friendship with the kids helps him get through the tough times in jail.
As the film progresses, we see how the siblings try to reconcile their differences and come to terms with their past. The film highlights the bond between siblings and the lengths they will go to protect each other. The grit and determination in their character is heartwarming and it makes you root for them until the very end.
The film is a visual treat, with stunning cinematography capturing the essence of Mumbai in all its glory. The background score and music by A.R. Rahman elevates the film to new heights. The performances by the actors are excellent, especially Ishaan Khattar, who makes a strong debut with this film.
Beyond the Clouds is not your typical Bollywood film, as it deals with some dark themes and doesn't shy away from showing the harsh reality of life in the city. The film is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys a good drama with strong performances and a heartfelt story. It's a beautiful portrayal of the human spirit and how it can overcome even the toughest of odds.
