Being Cyrus is a 2005 Indian English-language psychological thriller film directed by Homi Adajania. The film stars Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Saif Ali Khan, and Boman Irani in leading roles while Simone Singh and Manoj Pahwa are seen in supporting roles. Being Cyrus tells the story of Cyrus Mistry, a young man who enters the lives of a Parsi family, who are struggling to keep their business and family life together.

The plot revolves around the dysfunctional Sethna family who live in a sprawling bungalow in Panchgani, a hill station near Bombay. The patriarch Fardoonjee Sethna (Naseeruddin Shah) is an eccentric, wheelchair-bound old man, who spends most of his time listening to music and watching his prized possession, a vintage car. Two of his children, Dinshaw (Boman Irani) and Katy (Dimple Kapadia), run a small funeral home, while their younger brother Farrokh (Saif Ali Khan) is pursuing his passion for painting.

One day, Cyrus Mistry (played by a brilliant Saif Ali Khan), an enigmatic and mysterious character, arrives at their doorstep seeking shelter, claiming to be a distant relative. The family takes him in, and soon he becomes an indispensable member of the family. But as events unfold, his true intentions are revealed, and the Sethna family must deal with the consequences of their actions.

Being Cyrus deals with themes of paranoia, identity, and manipulation. The film is shot mostly indoors, and the sets are dark and gloomy, adding to the sense of impending doom. The plot is complex, and the characters are both fascinating and disturbing, which makes for an engrossing watch.

Saif Ali Khan delivers one of his career-best performances as Cyrus, whose character is shrouded in ambiguity, and he manages to keep the viewers guessing until the very end. Dimple Kapadia shines as Katy Sethna, a quiet, understated character whose feelings are always simmering just below the surface. Naseeruddin Shah is brilliant as always, portraying a man who is both vulnerable and manipulative. Boman Irani and Simone Singh are both excellent in their supporting roles.

Being Cyrus is a slow-burning thriller that grabs your attention right from the start and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. The film explores the dark underbelly of human nature, and the direction, screenplay, and performances all come together to create a masterpiece.

In conclusion, Being Cyrus is a must-watch for fans of psychological thrillers, and anyone who enjoys a well-crafted, intelligent film. The film won critical acclaim upon its release, and it continues to be one of the most underrated gems of Indian cinema.
