Before I Go to Sleep is a psychological thriller film directed by Rowan Joffe and released in 2014. The movie stars Academy Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth, and Mark Strong in lead roles. The story follows a woman named Christine Lucas (Nicole Kidman) who suffers from a rare form of amnesia that causes her to forget everything that happened to her after she falls asleep each night. She wakes up every morning with no memories of her past or of the last two decades of her life. Her husband Ben (Colin Firth) tries to help her by keeping a video diary to remind her of who she is, but Christine needs more than that to regain her memory.

Dr. Nasch (Mark Strong), a neuropsychologist, contacts Christine and tells her that he has been working with her since she was in a coma after an accident. He believes that he may be able to help her regain her memory by giving her a series of memory exercises. Christine begins to work with Dr. Nasch, but she soon realizes that something is not quite right. She is haunted by strange memories that do not match the stories that her husband and doctor have been telling her. As Christine starts to uncover the truth about her past, she must fight to regain her memory and figure out who she can trust.

The movie's pacing is deliberately slow and methodical, reflecting the mental state of its protagonist. It creates a sense of suspense and tension that is maintained throughout the film. The scenes and settings are dark and moody, with a lot of shadows and muted colors, which adds to the film's unsettling atmosphere.

The performances of the three lead actors are outstanding, particularly Nicole Kidman who delivers a nuanced performance as Christine. She flawlessly portrays the character's confusion, desperation, and paranoia, without ever seeming melodramatic. Colin Firth, as her husband Ben, is also excellent, playing the mysterious and possibly unreliable husband with skill. Mark Strong's Dr. Nasch is a complex character, who is both sympathetic and unsettling.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the movie is the way it explores memory and identity. As Christine uncovers more about her past, she begins to question the version of herself that has been presented to her by others. The movie poses the question of whether memory defines identity, or if it's possible to forge a new identity without memories of the past.

Before I Go to Sleep is a gripping and thought-provoking thriller that will keep the audience engaged from start to finish. It's a movie that will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers and those who enjoy thought-provoking drama.

Before I Go to Sleep is a 2014 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 32 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.3 and a MetaScore of 41.
