Bedazzled is a comedy film that was released in 2000. Directed by Harold Ramis and starring Brendan Fraser as Elliot Richards and Elizabeth Hurley as the devil, the film is a retelling of the classic story of Faust, but with a comedic twist. The film's storyline revolves around Elliot Richards, a hapless technical support worker who has a crush on his colleague Alison Gardner (Frances O'Connor). Despite his best efforts, Elliot seems unable to win Alison's affection. In a moment of desperation, Elliot makes a deal with the devil that she will grant him seven wishes in exchange for his soul. In typical devilish fashion, the devil ruthlessly twists each of Elliot's wishes to suit her own nefarious desires, leading to hilariously disastrous consequences for Elliot.
As Elliot makes each of his wishes, he finds himself in a variety of strange and entertaining situations. For his first wish, he asks to be rich, powerful and married to Alison. However, the devil interprets this as him becoming a South American drug lord with Alison as his unwilling bride. For his second wish, Elliot wishes to be intelligent, but the devil once again uses her powers to misinterpret his wishes, leaving Elliot as a nerdy intellectual with no social skills.
As Elliot continues to make wishes, he soon realizes that the devil is using his desires against him. Every wish he makes is used to torment him, and he finds himself losing everything he holds dear. Yet, despite all of these setbacks, Elliot is still determined to win Alison's heart. In a final showdown with the devil, Elliot must outsmart her and find a way to save his soul and win the girl he loves.
Bedazzled is a fun and entertaining comedy that is full of laugh-out-loud moments. The film's stars, Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley, deliver excellent performances, with Fraser's goofy charm perfectly complementing Hurley's icy seductiveness. The film also features a number of enjoyable supporting characters, such as Elliot's hilariously inappropriate co-worker Dan (Paul Adelstein) and the nerd-turned-playboy Elliot from one of his early wishes.
Aside from its strong cast and comedic chops, Bedazzled is also notable for its impressive special effects. From the fiery infernos of hell to the lavish lifestyle afforded to Elliot by his first wish, the film is a visual treat that is sure to keep audiences entertained.
Overall, Bedazzled is a delightful and entertaining film that is sure to please any comedy fan. Whether you're a fan of the classic Faust tale or simply looking for a fun and lighthearted movie, Bedazzled is sure to deliver.
