Be Cool is a 2005 American crime-comedy film directed by F. Gary Gray and starring an ensemble cast led by John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Dwayne Johnson, and Vince Vaughn. It is a sequel to the 1995 film Get Shorty, also based on a novel by Elmore Leonard. The film follows Chili Palmer (John Travolta), a former mobster turned movie producer who decides to switch careers once again and become a music industry executive. Along the way, he meets and befriends a young singer named Linda Moon (Christina Milian) and gets caught up in the conflicts between rival record labels, gangsters, and music industry power players.

Uma Thurman plays Edie Athens, a widow with a talent for independent film distribution who becomes Chili's business partner and love interest. Dwayne Johnson, known at this time as "The Rock," delivers a breakout performance as Elliot Wilhelm, a gay bodyguard with dreams of becoming an actor. Vince Vaughn plays Raji, a hip-hop producer with a penchant for over-the-top fashion and a volatile temper.

The film is notable for its humorous takes on the music industry, Hollywood culture, and the lifestyles of the rich and famous. It features various musical performances, including a memorable scene where Dwayne Johnson sings an off-key rendition of "You Ain't Woman Enough (to Take My Man)" in drag.

The plot revolves around Chili's attempts to sign Linda Moon to his record label, which puts him in direct competition with Raji and his boss Nick Carr (Harvey Keitel). Meanwhile, Chili also becomes involved in the troubles of a record executive named Tommy Athens (James Woods), whose business dealings have put him in debt to a Russian mobster named Sin LaSalle (Cedric the Entertainer). Sin LaSalle is also connected to Raji and Nick Carr, making for a complicated web of conflicts.

As Chili navigates these various obstacles, he must also deal with the eccentricities of his colleagues and associates, including Elliot's thespian ambitions and Raji's flamboyant persona. There are also several humorous subplots involving characters like a clueless limo driver and a group of well-intentioned but inept music video directors.

Overall, Be Cool is a lighthearted and entertaining romp through the world of music and show business. Its star-studded cast delivers engaging performances, and the film's satirical commentary on the excesses and contradictions of the entertainment industry make it a fun and enjoyable watch.

Be Cool is a 2005 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 58 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6 and a MetaScore of 37.
