Battle of Blood Island is a 1960 war drama film directed by Joel M. Rapp and produced by Roger Corman. The movie stars Richard Devon and Ron Gans in the lead roles, supported by some other actors. The movie is set during the Second World War and focuses on the story of two American soldiers who find themselves stranded on a small Pacific island. The two soldiers have to fight for their lives against the Japanese soldiers on the island.

The movie begins with a small group of American soldiers being sent to a remote Pacific island to set up a radar station. The soldiers include Sergeant Bill Trevett (Richard Devon), Private Ed Tucci (Ron Gans), and Lieutenant Mike Clark (Robert Emhardt) who are soon joined by a Japanese-American translator, Private Ichiro Ryo (Richard Loo). The group quickly realizes that the island is occupied by Japanese soldiers, and a fierce battle follows in which most of the American soldiers are killed. Trevett and Tucci find themselves stranded on the island and must use all their training to survive.

Being stranded on the island is not their only issue, because they come across some Japanese soldiers on the island who are also stranded. The lead Japanese soldier, Captain Yasuda (Jacques Arndt), and his men are determined to defend their territory at all cost, leaving them with no choice but to engage in battles with them. The situation becomes more complicated when Yasuda discovers that the Americans have a radar station on the island, which would give a significant advantage to whoever controls it. Thus, the two sides engage in a series of battles, the result of which will determine who controls the island.

The movie focuses on the psychological battle between both sides as well as the physical one. As the men are marooned on the island with no way of escape, each side tries to find ways to outsmart the other. There are some twists and turns in the movie which keeps the audience engaged till the end. The movie also highlights the underlying theme of war in which enemies are pitted against each other, but ultimately it is the common man who suffers the most.

The movie was made with a very modest budget, but the filmmakers have made the most of what they had. It is not a perfect film, but it is engaging enough to keep the audience entertained. The cinematography is impressive, with some stunning shots of the island and the surrounding ocean. The performances of the lead actors also stand out, especially Richard Devon in the role of Trevett. Devon portrays the character of Trevett as a man who is determined to survive and will do anything to achieve that goal. Ron Gans is equally good as Tucci, the young and inexperienced soldier who learns to adapt to the harsh realities of war.

The movie also has some flaws, with the pacing being a bit slow at times. The dialogue, too, is not exactly memorable, with most of it being functional to keep the plot moving forward. Additionally, some of the scenes portraying the Japanese soldiers come across as caricatures, which may offend some viewers.

In summary, Battle of Blood Island is a competent war drama that will appeal to fans of the genre. It is a low-budget movie that delivers on its premise, with some great performances and impressive cinematography. Although it has its flaws, the movie still manages to hold its own against other war dramas of its time.

Battle of Blood Island is a 1960 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 4 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.8.
