This follows the life of a young man in Poland from 1930 to 1950. This young man is only out to get what he wants with the disregard of others feelings. Every time he gets close to caring about others, an unfortunate event happens. In his childhood, he finds it acceptable to be self-centered and is rewarded for it. When he is a young man, he finds his first love, but it is set back because he is mistaken for a Jew. Finally he decides to join the army to impress the girl, but he is captured by the Nazi's.
