Awaaz is a 1984 drama film directed by Shakti Samanta, starring Rajesh Khanna, Jaya Prada, and Rakesh Roshan in lead roles. The storyline revolves around a retired judge Mr. Verma (Rajesh Khanna) and his wife Anu (Jaya Prada) who live a happy and peaceful life untill two sudden events change their fate. First, their son Ravi (Pradeep Kumar) gets killed in a car accident, and second, their daughter Uma (Supriya Pathak) becomes a victim of a sexual assault.
Mr. Verma, being a retired judge, decides to take the matter into his own hands and seek justice for his daughter. However, due to the flaws in the legal system and the corruptions of the people in power, he does not succeed. He then takes the responsibility to bring theculprit to justice and punish him.
The movie portrays the struggles of a father who seeks justice for his daughter and how he manages to overcome the hurdles in his way. It also shows the corrupt nature of the judiciary system and the lack of concern for justice for the victims.
Rajesh Khanna gives a brilliant performance as Mr. Verma, portraying his emotions of anger, grief, and despair perfectly. Jaya Prada gives a touching performance as a mother who has lost her son and is struggling to cope up with her daughter's situation.
The film's music, composed by R.D. Burman, is soulful and adds emotion to the movie. The famous song, "Tu Hindu Banega Na Musalman Banega," is still remembered for its message of unity and peace.
