In the movie Attack the Block, we are taken on a wild ride through the streets of South London as a group of young street toughs battle it out with an invasion of mysterious aliens that have landed on their doorstep. The film is a science-fiction/horror movie, but it's also got a lot of heart and a lot of humor. The main character, Moses (played by John Boyega), is leader of a gang of kids who spend their time mugging people and terrorizing their neighborhood. On the night the film takes place, Moses and his gang are out on the prowl when they witness a meteorite crash to Earth. Investigating the crash site, they come face to face with a strange, glowing creature that attacks them. They are able to kill the creature, but soon learn that it was just the first of many, as more of the alien monsters begin to descend upon their block.

Faced with a threat of unimaginable proportions, Moses and his gang join forces with a nurse named Sam (played by Jodie Whittaker), who was also attacked by the aliens, and together they fight to protect their homes and loved ones from the extraterrestrial invaders.

What makes Attack the Block such a standout movie is its unique take on the alien invasion genre. Rather than being set in some far-off location or focusing on a group of elite soldiers fighting off the aliens, the film takes place in a run-down South London housing projects and the main characters are a group of juvenile delinquents. This unconventional cast of characters adds a layer of depth to the film that is often missing from more traditional sci-fi/horror movies.

Director Joe Cornish, making his feature debut, displays an impressive visual style and a firm grasp of tone. The action sequences are pulse-pounding and exciting, but they're also balanced out with moments of humor and heartfelt emotion that keep you invested in the characters and their struggles.

John Boyega gives a breakout performance as Moses, the tough but conflicted gang leader who finds himself thrust into a situation far beyond his control. His performance balances the high-energy action scenes with quieter moments of reflection and introspection, giving his character a depth and complexity that is rare in movies of this type.

Jodie Whittaker is also fantastic as Sam, the nurse who finds herself swept up in the chaos of the alien invasion. She brings a stoic determination to the role that is both inspiring and poignant.

The rest of the cast is made up of unknown actors, many of whom were recruited from local drama schools and were making their first film appearances. These fresh faces add to the authenticity of the film's setting, and their performances are uniformly excellent.

Another standout aspect of Attack the Block is its music. The score, composed by Steven Price, is a propulsive blend of electronic beats and orchestral flourishes that perfectly matches the film's frenetic energy. The use of popular songs such as Basement Jaxx's "Do Your Thing" and The Heavy's "How You Like Me Now?" also adds to the film's sense of fun and excitement.

Overall, Attack the Block is a unique and thrilling movie that is sure to please fans of science-fiction, horror, and action movies alike. With its fresh take on the alien invasion genre, strong performances, and impressive visuals, it's no wonder that the film has become a cult classic since its release in 2011. If you're looking for something offbeat and exciting, look no further than Attack the Block.
