"Asal" is a 2010 action-thriller film starring Ajith Kumar, Sameera Reddy, and Bhavana. This movie was directed by Saran and produced by Prabhu Ganesan under the banner of Sivaji Productions. This movie marks the 50th film of Ajith Kumar's career and was released worldwide on February 5th, 2010. The movie tells the story of a gangster named Jeevanantham (Ajith Kumar) who lives a lavish life in Paris, France along with his girlfriend Lia (Sameera Reddy). Jeeva is a cold-blooded killer who takes up assignments from gangsters in India. He is very close to his mother and sister, who reside in India. His mother is diagnosed with a rare disease and requires a heart transplant. Jeeva wants to save his mother's life but is unable to do so because of financial constraints.
To save his mother, Jeeva plans a heist along with his gang members in Mumbai. They rob the diamond trading center and secure the diamonds worth millions of dollars. While returning to Paris, Jeeva's gang members betray him and try to kill him. Jeeva manages to escape and hides in a small village in Tamil Nadu to save his life.
In the village, Jeeva lives a normal life under a false name and meets a young woman called Selvi (Bhavana) whom he falls in love with. Selvi is a teacher in a small school in the village, and she and Jeeva share a special bond. However, Jeeva's past catches up with him when his gang members find him and try to kill him.
The rest of the movie is about Jeeva's fight to survive and how he emerges as a winner, ultimately taking revenge on his traitorous gang members. The movie has many twists and turns, and the audience is left on the edge of their seats, wondering what will happen next.
The movie's highlight is undoubtedly Ajith Kumar's acting. He has aptly portrayed his character as a cold-blooded gangster, and his fight scenes are terrific. Sameera Reddy has done justice to her role as Jeeva's girlfriend, and her chemistry with Ajith is fantastic. Bhavana has played her part beautifully as Jeeva's love interest, and her performance is heartwarming.
The music of the movie is composed by Bharathwaj, and the songs are melodious and very hummable. The cinematography is excellent, and the scenic beauty of the village is a visual treat. The director has done a fantastic job of keeping the audience engaged throughout the movie.
The movie's positives are its strong storyline, brilliant performances, and the action sequences. The movie has its negative shades too. The movie lacks proper character development and has too many characters who don't play a significant role in the movie. The pace of the movie is slow initially, but it gains momentum towards the climax.
Overall, "Asal" is a movie that would appeal to action-lovers and fans of Ajith Kumar. It has everything that a masala entertainer needs- action, romance, drama, and suspense. The movie's highlight is definitely Ajith Kumar's performance, and his fans would not be disappointed. The movie's storyline is well-written, and the director has executed it well, making it a decent watch.
