This 2013 documentary takes an innovative approach to the genre, with hand-drawn animation making up most of its feature-length run time. A labor of love by a filmmaker who is himself a Korean immigrant adopted by American parents in the time following the Korean War, the film follows his earliest days in the United States. Suitable for children who may find themselves drawn to its simplistic and eye-catching animated sequences, the film nonetheless tackles some serious issues that will hit especially close to home with children or adults who are immigrants themselves. The protagonist - that is, the filmmaker in animated form - is forced to come to grips with prejudices, even from his own new parents.

Approved for Adoption is a 2013 animated movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 15 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.3 and a MetaScore of 73.
