A*P*E is a 1976 monster movie directed by Paul Leder and produced by K.M. Yeung. The film is a low-budget parody of King Kong and features a giant ape wreaking havoc on a South Korean city. The story follows a film crew shooting a movie on an island in South Korea. While filming, they discover a giant ape named A*P*E (short for "Attacking Primate Monster") who has been awakened by an earthquake. When the crew tries to capture the creature, it becomes enraged and escapes to the mainland.

Once on the mainland, A*P*E causes chaos in the city, destroying buildings and fighting the military. The film crew, along with a local woman named Marilyn (played by Joanna Kerns), must find a way to stop the monster before it causes more destruction.

The special effects used to create the giant ape are very low-budget and look somewhat comical. The filmmakers used a combination of a man in a gorilla suit and a large model of the apes head to create the illusion of a giant creature. This is in sharp contrast to the special effects used in the original King Kong film, which were state-of-the-art for the time.

The acting in the film is also somewhat over-the-top, with many of the characters delivering their lines in a melodramatic fashion. Rod Arrants, who plays the lead film director, is particularly hammy in his role.

Despite its faults, A*P*E is a fun and entertaining movie to watch. It's a classic example of a "so bad it's good" film that's enjoyable simply because of how ludicrous it is. It's clear that the filmmakers weren't taking themselves too seriously when they made the movie, and this sense of lightheartedness is infectious.

In the end, A*P*E is a movie that's best watched with friends and a few cold beers. It's not a cinematic masterpiece by any means, but it's a fun and silly time-waster that's worth a watch if you're in the mood for some mindless entertainment.
