Apartment Zero is a psychological thriller movie released in 1988, directed by Argentine-British director Martin Donovan. The film stars Harth Bochner, Colin Firth, and Dora Bryan. It's set in Buenos Aires and takes the audience on a tense and suspenseful ride, exploring themes of identity, mental health, and paranoia. The film follows Adrian LeDuc (Hart Bochner), a reserved and introverted film buff who lives in an apartment in Buenos Aires' Montserrat neighborhood. He runs a failing cine club and seems content with his simple life. However, he soon takes on Jack Carney (Colin Firth) as his roommate and things start rapidly unraveling.

Jack is a charming, charismatic and self-assured man, who quickly establishes himself as the life of the party, much to Adrian's dismay. Adrain takes a disliking to Jack and his aggressive behavior, but as events unfold, it becomes clear that Jack may not be who he claims to be.

The plot thickens when Adrian becomes the prime suspect in a gruesome murder case, which took place in his building. Detectives begin to question him, and while he swears he didn't do it, they are not convinced. He gathers information and pieces together a theory that Jack might be behind the crime.

However, the more Adrian investigates, the more unhinged he becomes. He starts scrutinizing everyone around him and weighs their actions against his version of reality, bringing his own sanity into question.

The line between hallucinations and reality starts to blur, and Adrian becomes increasingly paranoid and distrustful of those around him. He threatens to lose a grip on himself completely as the tension in the apartment builds.

The suspenseful and immersive soundtrack by Angelo Badalamenti, who worked on several of David Lynch's movies, adds a layer of unease that enhances the movie's overall experience.

The film is excellently produced, with stunning cinematography and direction. The masterfully chosen locations contribute to highlighting the distinctive atmosphere of the Argentine capital city.

The performances of Hart Bochner and Colin Firth are outstanding. Bochner portrays Adrian's nervous and anxious behavior, building up to a shocking moment in the third act. Colin Firth is charming and likable, adding to the unsettling suspense as the plot unfolds.

Dora Bryan also stands out with her captivating performance as an eccentric neighbor. She presents a quirky portrayal of a woman who is running from her past and is willing to do whatever it takes to survive.

Overall, Apartment Zero is a thriller that will take you on a roller coaster ride of suspense and paranoia. It's a gritty and immersive psychological account of the unraveling of one man's life, and it will keep you on edge until the very end.
