Anthropoid is a thrilling World War II drama that follows Operation Anthropoid, a mission carried out by two Czechoslovakian soldiers to assassinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich, the main architect behind the Final Solution and one of the key leaders of the Nazi regime. The movie is set in 1941, when Czechoslovakia is under Nazi occupation. Jan Kubis (Jamie Dornan) and Jozef Gabcik (Cillian Murphy) are two parachutists who are sent from London to Czechoslovakia to carry out the assassination. Their mission is immensely dangerous, as Heydrich is a high-ranking Nazi official with extensive security measures in place to protect him.

Upon arriving in Prague, Kubis and Gabcik connect with the local resistance and hatch their plan to assassinate Heydrich. They set up in a safe house on the outskirts of the city and begin preparing for the operation. They must be careful, however, as the local population is largely supportive of the Nazis and any suspicion could lead to their capture.

As the assassination plan is set in motion, things quickly become chaotic. Heydrich is well-protected and the soldiers must adapt their plans on the fly. Kubis and Gabcik quickly realize they are not just fighting against Heydrich, but against an entire army of Nazis.

The tension in the film builds as the soldiers navigate the dangerous labyrinth of Nazi-occupied Prague, constantly playing a game of cat and mouse with the enemy. The stakes are high, as the success of the mission could mean a turning point in the war, but the failure could lead to devastating consequences.

The performances in the film, particularly by Dornan and Murphy, are exceptional. The chemistry between the two is palpable, and their characters' determination and bravery are truly inspiring. The supporting cast, including Brian Caspe as the resistance leader, are also strong and add depth to the story.

Director Sean Ellis is masterful in his portrayal of the harsh realities of war. The film is shot in a gritty, claustrophobic style that adds to the tension of the story. The streets of Prague are often dark and shadowy, adding to the dangerous and uncertain nature of the soldiers' mission.

Anthropoid is an intense, heart-pounding film that tells a lesser-known story of World War II. It shines a light on the bravery and sacrifices of those who fought against the Nazis, even when the odds were stacked against them. The film is a testament to the power of courage, perseverance, and sacrifice in the face of evil.

Anthropoid is a 2016 history movie with a runtime of 2 hours. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.2 and a MetaScore of 59.
