In the horror thriller Anna, two men unwisely steal a haunted doll from a museum. That's when they find out that the demon-possessed thing has murderous intent. They'll have to fight to survive.
The thieves' original intent is fairly innocent. They know the doll is haunted, but they're not too concerned. What they really want is to capture evidence of its haunted behavior on video. However, they quickly discover that they're in over their heads. The spirit inhabiting the doll is much more malevolent and much more dangerous than they at first thought. Their experiments open up a gateway to hell, forcing them to deal with something much bigger than just a spooky doll.
The film shouldn't be confused with the Annabelle sub-franchise of The Conjuring universe. In the franchise, a doll called Annabelle plays a minor roll in the original film and is the primary subject of another film in the franchise. This 2017 film appropriates both the idea of a demon-possessed doll and the doll's name.
This film also shouldn't be confused with the 2013 German horror film of the same name, which also is sometimes known as Mindscape. Coincidentally, that film stars Taissa Farmiga, the sister of Vera Farmiga, star of The Conjuring franchise.
The film was released to an overwhelmingly negative response. Critics have noted its low production value, which extends even to multiple typos and misspellings in its opening credits. The film is available for on-demand streaming.
Anna is a 2017 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 2.1.
