Anjuman, released in 1970, is a Pakistani drama film directed by Hasan Tariq. The movie stars Deeba Begum, Sabiha Khanum, and Santosh Kumar in the leading roles. The film revolves around the story of a village girl who falls in love with a wealthy man, leading to a series of emotional and tragic events. The film begins with the introduction of Anjuman, played by Deeba Begum, a beautiful and innocent village girl who lives with her mother and brother. One day, Anjuman meets a wealthy businessman named Nawab Sahab, played by Santosh Kumar. Despite the differences in their social status, the two fall in love with each other. However, Nawab Sahab's mother, played by Sabiha Khanum, is against their relationship and does not approve of Anjuman.

Nawab Sahab decides to marry Anjuman secretly without informing his mother. The couple moves to the city to start a new life, leaving Anjuman's mother and brother behind. Slowly, Anjuman realizes that her life is not as glamorous as she had imagined it to be. She finds it difficult to adjust to the city life and culture. Moreover, Nawab Sahab's mother disapproves of her constantly, leading to conflicts between the two.

As time passes, Anjuman becomes pregnant, which brings a new ray of hope and happiness to the couple's life. However, tragedy strikes when Nawab Sahab's mother finds out about the pregnancy and forces her son to abandon Anjuman. Left alone and pregnant, Anjuman faces numerous challenges and struggles to survive in a new place without any support.

The film portrays the harsh reality of society, where relationships are judged based on social status rather than love. The story highlights the struggles and sufferings of women who are considered secondary in a patriarchal society. The characters in the movie are realistic, and the plot keeps the audience engaged throughout.

Deeba Begum's performance as Anjuman is noteworthy. She perfectly portrays the innocence and vulnerability of a rural girl who struggles to adapt to a new and fast-paced city life. Her expressive face and emotional scenes in the movie are touching and leave a long-lasting impact on the audience.

Santosh Kumar's portrayal of Nawab Sahab adds depth to the story. His character starts as a caring and loving partner who is deeply in love with Anjuman. However, his weak nature and inability to stand up against his mother's will lead to the tragic events in the movie.

Sabiha Khanum's character as Nawab Sahab's mother is crucial to the plot. Her character represents the elitist and conservative mindset prevalent in society. She disproves of Anjuman and does not consider her eligible to be her daughter-in-law.

The music of the film, composed by Nisar Bazmi, is soulful and matches the tone of the movie. The songs "Dil Dharakne Ka Sabab Yaad Aaya" and "Koi Pyar ki Dekhe Jadugari" are memorable and still popular among the audience.

Overall, Anjuman is a timeless Pakistani classic that portrays the harsh realities of society and the struggles of women. The film's strong characters, engaging plot, and melodious music make it a must-watch for anyone interested in Pakistani cinema.
