Angels in the Infield is a family comedy film from 2000 that follows the story of a struggling little league team called the Rockies who are on the brink of elimination from the playoffs. Their bad luck seems to turn around when a group of heavenly Angels appear out of nowhere to help the Rockies. The film is a sequel to the 1994 movie Angels in the Outfield.
The Angels, led by Bob "Bungler" Bugler (Patrick Warburton), try to help the Rockies turn their fortune around by providing tips and insights on how to improve their game. The Angels are seen by the Rockies' pitcher Eddie Everett (David Alan Grier), who initially thinks he's hallucinating, but soon realizes they're real.
As the Rockies move through the playoffs with the help of their Angelic friends, they become more confident in their abilities and learn from their mistakes. However, the Angels find themselves in a precarious situation after appearing before the team owner (Kurt Fuller) and the team's coach (Britt Irvin). They must decide whether to reveal their true identity or risk losing their heavenly powers forever.
The team's success with the Angels' assistance leads to more media exposure, which generates intense pressure on the young players. Meanwhile, Eddie tries to balance his role as the team's star player and his developing relationship with Claire (Rebecca Jenkins), a single mother who runs a concessions stand at the stadium.
The film is filled with nostalgia and humor that will appeal to both children and adults. The Angels' unique personalities and abilities, such as teleportation and invisibility, provide a whimsical element to the story. The film also explores themes of teamwork, perseverance, and understanding.
Patrick Warburton's portrayal of Bob "Bungler" Bugler, the expert in "angelology," is a standout performance. His comic timing and deadpan delivery make him a scene-stealer. Britt Irvin shines as the no-nonsense coach who learns from the Angels about the importance of keeping the game fun for her players. Meanwhile, David Alan Grier's Eddie is a relatable character who struggles with balancing his love for the game with his personal life.
The film's soundtrack features popular hits from the 60s and 70s, such as The Turtles' "Happy Together" and The Monkees' "I'm a Believer." The upbeat music adds to the nostalgic feel of the film.
Overall, Angels in the Infield is a fun family movie that will bring back fond memories of childhood while delivering a positive message about teamwork and perseverance. The film's cast of talented actors and engaging storyline make it an enjoyable watch for the entire family.
