The main character, Angel (played by Don Stroud), is the leader of the gang and a former musician who is traveling across the country searching for himself. When they arrive in the town, they encounter a group of rednecks who are racist and violent towards them. However, they are also met by an old man named Merl (played by Aldo Ray) who owns a junkyard and offers to help them fix their bikes. Angel and his gang are grateful for Merl's help and decide to stay in the town for a few days until their bikes are fixed.
While in the town, Angel meets a young girl named Longhair (played by Tyne Daly) who is living with her uncle and aunt, and they fall in love. However, their relationship is not approved by her conservative family, and they face opposition from the rednecks in the town.
As tensions escalate, Angel and his gang become more involved in the conflicts between the town's residents. The rednecks become increasingly violent towards the bikers, and the bikers decide to fight back. Meanwhile, Angel's relationship with Longhair creates further turmoil as her family disapproves of her involvement with a biker.
