Everyone in the Biederman family is looking forward to enjoying a relaxing annual summer vacation. But things don't go according to plan when their estranged brother Seth decides to throw a monkey wrench into the vacation by not only showing up unannounced, but also accompanied by his boyfriend William. Brother Tom, a Protestant clergyman, is especially critical of his brother's homosexual lifestyle. This puts a further strain on his marriage to Mattie, while both Mattie and her mother-in-law Sarah begin working to encourage Tom to see his gay brother in a more tolerant light.
