
Amantes is a 1991 Spanish love story. The movie won two Goya awards for Best director and Best film. In English the movie title translates to Lovers. The movie is set in Madrid, Spain in the 1950s. The movie is about a young solider who accidentally destroys the lives of two women who love him. Paco is a young soldier and is involved with Trini, a maid. Trini is saving money and plans for their wedding day. Paco tells her not to worry and he'll find a job and save money too.
Paco leaves the army, but has trouble finding and keeping a job. He rents a cheap room from Luisa, a beautiful widow. She seduces him and involves him in her moneymaking scams.
Trini figures out what's going on with Paco and makes a desperate effort to win him back. Paco is obsessed with Luisa, but is unable to break off his relationship with Trini. He attempts to string them both along, with bad results.
