Alone is a 2007 Thai horror movie that follows the story of a woman named Pim (Marsha Wattanapanich) who is haunted by an evil spirit from her past. The movie is directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom and stars Vittaya Wasukraipaisan and Rachanu Boonchuduang in supporting roles. At the beginning of the movie, we see Pim as a child living with her conjoined twin sister Ploy. They are very close and share everything, but Pim starts to feel like she is overshadowed by her sister's popularity. She begins to resent Ploy and thinks that her sister is the reason why her mother died. One day, Pim and her classmates play a game called "glass ghost" which is meant to summon a ghost who will grant them three wishes. But the game goes wrong when Pim wishes for her sister to go away and the spirit that they summoned takes Ploy's life, leaving Pim all alone.
The movie then jumps ahead to the present day where Pim is now a successful doctor and has moved to a new city to make a fresh start. She is engaged to Wee (Vittaya Wasukraipaisan), who is also a doctor, and they plan to get married soon. However, strange things start happening around their new house and Pim begins to see a ghostly figure that looks like her sister. She tries to ignore it, but the sightings become more frequent and she starts to feel like she is losing her mind.
Pim confides in her neighbor, Kam (Rachanu Boonchuduang), who is a medium and specializes in communicating with ghosts. Kam tries to help Pim and tells her that the spirit of her sister is following her and is seeking revenge. She also reveals that Ploy was not the one who died during the game of "glass ghost", but it was actually Pim. Pim has been living her life with her dead sister's spirit attached to her.
As Pim tries to come to terms with this revelation, the ghostly sightings become more violent and Wee starts to notice something is wrong with Pim. He tries to help her, but the supernatural forces are too strong and it becomes clear that Pim must face her past in order to move forward.
The movie is a chilling and suspenseful horror film that explores the themes of loss, grief, and guilt. It is well-paced and keeps the audience on the edge of their seat until the very end. The cinematography is excellent and the use of lighting and sound creates an eerie atmosphere that adds to the overall mood of the movie.
One of the strengths of Alone is the standout performance by Marsha Wattanapanich. She delivers a nuanced and emotional portrayal of Pim, capturing the character's pain and anguish in a very convincing way. The supporting cast also does a great job, especially Rachanu Boonchuduang as Kam, who brings a sense of groundedness to the movie.
Overall, Alone is a great example of Thai horror cinema and stands out as one of the best in the genre. Despite being a foreign language film, it has universal themes that will resonate with audiences around the world. If you are a fan of horror movies, then Alone is definitely worth checking out.
