All Over Me is a coming-of-age drama film that was released in 1997, directed by Alex Sichel. The movie follows the life of a teenage girl named Claude (Alison Folland) who is struggling to find herself while growing up in New York City. Her best friend Ellen (Tara Subkoff) is a rebellious young girl who is interested in the punk rock scene and often hangs out with her boyfriend Mark (Cole Hauser) who is a drug dealer.

As Claude navigates her way through her adolescence, she becomes more and more curious about her own sexuality. She develops a crush on a girl named Lucy (Leisha Hailey) who plays guitar in a punk band. Claude’s interest in Lucy is complicated by the fact that her best friend Ellen has a crush on her too.

The film takes a deep dive into the complexities of young relationships, as Claude and Ellen’s platonic friendship begins to change and evolve over the course of the movie. Claude’s feelings for Lucy come to a head when she finally musters the courage to attend one of the punk shows that Lucy’s band is performing at.

All Over Me is a raw and unapologetic portrayal of what it’s like to grow up in an urban environment. The film doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects like drug use, teenage sexuality, and violence. The characters in the film are all searching for some form of meaning and direction, and by the film's conclusion, they all reach a certain level of understanding about themselves and the people around them.

One of the highlights of the movie is the incredible soundtrack, which features punk and alternative rock bands like Sleater-Kinney, Babes in Toyland and Joan Jett. The music perfectly captures the gritty, underground feel of the New York punk scene, and it adds an extra layer of emotional depth to the film.

Actress Alison Folland delivers a powerful performance as Claude, capturing the insecurity and uncertainty that comes with being a teenager. She is vulnerable and relatable in a way that makes the audience feel invested in her journey. Tara Subkoff also shines as Ellen, capturing the reckless spirit of a young girl searching for rebellion in all the wrong places.

All Over Me is a movie that addresses some tough issues affecting young people, but it’s also a film about the beauty of human connection. The themes of friendship and first love are universal, and the film’s depiction of these emotions is both poignant and sincere. Overall, All Over Me is a must-watch movie that is powerful, engaging, and well worth the time.
