In the animated feature film, Alien Xmas, directed by Stephen Chiodo and co-written by Kealan O'Rourke, the story revolves around a race of tiny, highly sophisticated creatures living on an asteroid called Klepton. These creatures, known as Klepts, have a mission to travel the universe and steal anything that they believe would bring joy to their society.
One Christmas, as the Klepts roam the universe in search of a rare object capable of producing infinite energy, they stumble upon Earth, and with the planet's vast resources, they decide to loot Christmas as well. A group of Klepts led by X, who is highly revered in their society, infiltrates a mysterious toy factory in the North Pole to steal from them the source of their energy, the Christmas spirit.
However, things take a different turn when X is discovered by a young boy named Pete, who accidentally falls into the Klept's ship. Pete befriends X and learns about the advanced Klept technology, realising that he possesses a unique ability to let loose the imprisoned "Christmas spirit." Together, they embark on a mission to salvage the Christmas spirit and restore the holiday's true purpose before it is too late.
As the Klepts merge with the toys, they become a fun-filled bunch, delighting kids and adults alike, but they start to lose sight of their mission. X, the most intelligent of the Klepts, becomes conflicted. He wants to take the toy-making business back to Klepton to help his people, but he also wants to preserve the spirit of Christmas. He reluctantly accepts his duty to continue with the mission, but in doing so, he endangers the children who are excited to have the Klepts as part of their Christmas celebration.
The animation quality and presentation in Alien Xmas are quite impressive. The film utilises a stop-motion technique that blends both old-fashioned animation with modern elements. The film sparkles with creative energy, and the character design is sure to delight younger viewers while keeping older audiences entertained with its humour and heart. The Klepts are charming and seem to be inspired by the Minions from Despicable Me. The humans, while not as imaginative, are relatable, and their struggles to convince others about the existence of the Klepts are engaging.
The voice acting in Alien Xmas is first-rate, especially from Keythe Farley, who voices the anxious yet brave X. Dee Bradley Baker's range of voice acting skills is also impressive as he puts life into the different Klepts. Kaliayh Rhambo is loveable as Pete, who leads an extensive cast of human characters who all bring their own unique quirks to the story.
The klept's underlying motives for infiltrating Christmas are not aligned to the holiday's values, and the film touches on those consequences. Themes of environmental sustainability, morality, and responsibility are threaded throughout the story, which provide an essential message for viewers. Alien Xmas leaves viewers feeling hopeful and joyful, with a strong sense of family, caring, and community amongst its messages.
In conclusion, Alien Xmas is an imaginative, funny, and heartwarming animated Christmas adventure movie with a beautiful message that is great for family viewing. It manages to balance the fun and the sentimentality of the holiday season, as well as deliver a unique spin on the familiar tale of saving Christmas. The stop-motion animation is outstanding, and the film's themes are both entertaining and educational. The film is a must-watch if you want something new to add to your Christmas watchlist or just want to delight in the wonderful story, intriguing characters, and beautiful animation.
