Alice Through the Looking Glass is a 2016 fantasy film directed by James Bobin and starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, and Helena Bonham Carter. The film is a sequel to the 2010 movie Alice in Wonderland, and is loosely based on the novel Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll. The movie follows Alice (Mia Wasikowska) as she returns to Wonderland to help save the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), who is suffering from a mysterious illness. To do so, she must travel through time and confront the evil Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter), who has seized control of Wonderland and plans to rule over it forever.
Alice's journey takes her through a series of fantastical and imaginative worlds, each one more bizarre and wondrous than the last. She meets a cast of eccentric characters along the way, including the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, and the Tweedles, as well as a new ally in the form of Time (Sacha Baron Cohen), who controls all the clocks and other timepieces in existence.
As Alice journeys through time, the film explores themes of regret, forgiveness, and family, as she comes to terms with the loss of her own parents and reconnects with the Hatter, who she realizes is the last surviving member of his family.
The movie is visually stunning, with breathtaking landscapes, fantastical creatures, and colorful costumes that bring Wonderland to life in a way that is both magical and unsettling. The actors all give great performances, with Johnny Depp bringing his characteristic quirkiness to the role of the Hatter, and Mia Wasikowska imbuing Alice with a sense of bravery and determination that makes her a compelling hero.
Helena Bonham Carter, in particular, shines as the villainous Red Queen, bringing a deliciously over-the-top performance to the role that perfectly captures the character's wickedness and vanity.
Overall, Alice Through the Looking Glass is a fun and exciting adventure movie that will appeal to both children and adults. While it may not have the same depth or complexity as the Lewis Carroll novel that inspired it, it still manages to capture the spirit of Wonderland and offer a satisfying conclusion to Alice's story.
Alice Through the Looking Glass is a 2016 adventure movie. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.2 and a MetaScore of 34.
