Middle-aged book editor Diane Clovier, a married mother of two, begins an affair with the roommate of a young novelist she is mentoring. Meanwhile, her husband Phillipe, a lawyer, has taken on the defense of an elderly neighbor woman who stabbed to death her unfaithful mate with a fork. When Phillipe discovers the affair, Diane tries to end the tryst before her husband develops murderous feelings of his own.
