After Earth is a science fiction movie set in a distant future where humanity has left Earth after it became uninhabitable due to catastrophic events. The movie is directed by M. Night Shyamalan and stars Jaden Smith, David Denman, and Will Smith. The story of After Earth revolves around the relationship between a father and a son, General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) and his son Kitai Raige (played by Jaden Smith), who crash land on Earth, which has been abandoned for a thousand years. The General and his son are the only surviving passengers of their spaceship after it crashes on Earth. The father is critically injured and the only way to save him is to retrieve a rescue beacon from the tail section of the ship that is located almost a hundred kilometers away. The catch is that the terrain they have to cross is incredibly dangerous, and Kitai is the only one fit enough to do it.

Kitai is a headstrong teenager who is struggling to gain acceptance from his father. He feels that his father always holds him to a higher standard and is never satisfied with his progress. However, when he sees that his father is injured and needs his help, Kitai steps up to the challenge. He sets out on a dangerous journey, accompanied only by his father's ghosted consciousness and some futuristic equipment that enhances his senses and makes him more agile.

As he traverses the wilderness, Kitai discovers that Earth is not the same as it was when humans lived there. The planet's natural evolution has created new and dangerous species that pose a significant threat to his survival. He must overcome these threats and his own insecurities to complete his mission and save his father.

The movie's pacing is a bit slow in the beginning, but it picks up considerably as Kitai's journey becomes more perilous. Jaden Smith's performance as Kitai is impressive, and he brings an emotional depth to the character that is rare for a young actor. Will Smith's role as the stern and stoic General is well-executed, although his screen time is limited due to his character's injury.

The futuristic technology and special effects used in the movie are impressive, and the landscape of the abandoned Earth is beautifully rendered. The movie's thematic message is a familiar one: the importance of facing one's fears and overcoming adversity to achieve personal growth. However, the movie manages to convey this message in a way that is fresh and engaging.

After Earth is not without its flaws. Some of the dialogue is a bit wooden, and the movie's heavy use of voiceover narration can be distracting. Also, the movie's climactic scene may not be entirely satisfying for some viewers, as it resolves itself too easily. However, these flaws do not detract from the overall quality of the movie.

In conclusion, if you are a fan of science fiction or action movies, After Earth is definitely worth watching. Its unique story and impressive visuals make it a standout movie in the genre. The movie's main theme of overcoming one's fears is one that will resonate with audiences of all ages.

After Earth is a 2013 science fiction movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.8 and a MetaScore of 33.
