Aalavandhan is a 2001 Indian psychological thriller film directed by Suresh Krissna and starring Kamal Haasan in dual roles. The film is loosely based on the novel "Day of the Jackal" by Frederick Forsyth. The film revolves around Major Vijay Kumar and his twin brother Nandu. Major Vijay Kumar is a military officer who is working on a top-secret project for the Indian government. Nandu, on the other hand, is a psychopath who kills people for pleasure.

The film begins with Major Vijay Kumar investigating the death of a scientist who was working on the secret project. As he delves deeper into the case, he discovers that his twin brother Nandu may be involved in the murder. Major Vijay Kumar sets out to find his brother and confront him, but he soon realizes that Nandu is always one step ahead of him.

As the story unfolds, we see flashbacks of Major Vijay Kumar and Nandu's childhood. We learn that Nandu was traumatized as a child when he witnessed their parents' brutal murder. This trauma leads Nandu down a dark path, and he becomes a cold-blooded killer. Major Vijay Kumar, on the other hand, joins the military to fight for his country.

Throughout the film, we see the contrast between the two brothers. Major Vijay Kumar is a disciplined military man who follows orders and values duty and honor above all else. Nandu, on the other hand, is a free spirit who refuses to be tied down by rules or societal norms.

The film is peppered with thrilling action sequences and intense psychological drama. Kamal Haasan delivers a masterful performance in both roles, showcasing his versatility as an actor. Raveena Tandon and Manisha Koirala also deliver strong performances as the two female leads.

One of the most striking aspects of the film is its visual style. Suresh Krissna employs a variety of creative camera techniques to fully immerse the audience in the story. The film also features stunning visual effects, which were ahead of their time when the film was released in 2001.

Overall, Aalavandhan is a gripping psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. With strong performances, innovative visuals, and an engrossing story, this film is a must-watch for fans of the genre.
