Aadai, released in 2019, is a Tamil-language thriller movie directed by Rathna Kumar that features Amala Paul in the lead role. The film also stars Vivek Prasanna and Ramya Subramanian in significant roles. The film is centered around Kamini, played by Amala Paul, a carefree, independent, and adventurous girl who works in a TV news channel. She loves to take risky challenges and lives life on her terms, often taking impulsive decisions. Her life takes an unexpected turn when a prank goes wrong, and she finds herself locked up nude in an abandoned building. She must use her wit and intelligence to survive and find a way out of this frightening situation.

The first half of the movie starts with a lot of fun, light-hearted moments, depicting Kamini's free-spirited life, her bonding with friends, and her eccentric behavior at work. Amala Paul does justice to her role and beautifully portrays the character's nuances, her emotional vulnerability, and her fierce resilience. The director skillfully establishes the character of Kamini, making the audience interested in her life and what happens to her.

The turning point of the film comes with Kamini's prank gone wrong. The story takes a dark turn and Kundhavai, played by Ramya Subramanian, the chief news editor and Kamini's boss, sends a team to rescue her. As they try to figure out how to save Kamini, they find themselves trapped in a similar situation, and the story takes more dangerous and thrilling turns.

Vivek Prasanna, who plays the cop Ajith Kumar, has a significant role in the second half of the movie. He provides the much-needed support to Kamini and the other trapped members and adds a new dimension to the film. Ramya Subramanian, too, does a great job as Kamini's boss, who wants to undo the mistake she made by sending Kamini to the building. She adds depth to the story and makes the audience understand her character's motive.

The movie is well-written and well-directed. Rathna Kumar has done a fantastic job of keeping the audience at the edge of their seats while not compromising on the character development. The film has brilliantly explored the theme of female empowerment, LGBTQ representation, and the dangers of social media.

The film's technical aspects are top-notch as well. The cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan is commendable, with the abandoned building's eerie set up creating a haunting atmosphere. Music by Pradeep Kumar and Oorka adds to the film's mood, with 'Onnumilla' and 'Ladoo' being the standout tracks.

Overall, Aadai is a gripping and intense thriller that keeps the audience engaged from start to finish. The film addresses various issues faced by women in modern society and encourages them to be independent and strong-willed. It is a must-watch movie for those who enjoy thriller films that leave a message.

Aadai is a 2019 thriller with a runtime of 131 hours. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1.
