A Resurrection is a 2013 horror thriller film directed by Matt Orlando, with a lineup of recognizable names including Mischa Barton, Devon Sawa, and Michael Clarke Duncan. The movie revolves around the death of a high school student, Eli, which stuns his fellow students, teachers, and his family. However, a year later, he mysteriously comes back to life, and his classmates and teachers are both intrigued and frightened by this apparent resurrection.

Jason (Brenden Meers), Eli's brother, is struggling to cope with his death following a tragic accident, and he is anxious when he finds out that his brother has returned from the dead. Jason is determined to discover what's really happening and sets out to investigate Eli's strange resurrection, but is met with resistance from his classmates and teachers who believe Eli is just a ghost or an evil entity.

All of the high school students seem to be hesitant to reveal what they know about Eli and his reappearance, and some are even afraid of him. There's a sense of tension and fear as the storyline unfolds, and as the viewer, you’re left on the edge of your seat, always speculating as to what may be happening.

Despite the warnings from others, Jason is drawn to Eli, and he decides to investigate the case of his brother's return. The more he uncovers, however, the more dangers he faces. The story unfolds as an intelligent thriller that is perfect for audiences who love the macabre and enjoy suspense. The scares are well-placed and don't feel too heavy-handed, and the pacing is also well done, which makes the story engaging from beginning to end.

Mischa Barton plays the school's therapist, who is trying to help the students and staff handle the aftermath of Eli's resurrection. Her role is critical as she helps Jason with his investigation by giving him leads and revealing more about Eli that the school staff would rather keep hidden. Devon Sawa plays Travis, Eli's former best friend, who is now a notorious criminal. He seems to have an ulterior motive in his relationship with Eli, and his character provides the perfect antagonist for Jason's quest.

Michael Clarke Duncan gives a memorable performance as a security guard who is initially dismissive of Jason's suspicions but eventually backs him up when he realizes that there may be some truth to his claims. Moments when Duncan is on-screen lend weight to the film and create a sense of tension that is necessary to keep the audience invested in the story.

The film boasts some excellent cinematography, including the use of night-time shots and other visual effects that add an ominous and chilling atmosphere. This is effective in ramping up the tension, and the editing is also done well, making the movie visually stunning.

Overall, A Resurrection is a perfectly crafted horror thriller, which delivers suspense, intrigue, and scares. While it may not be the most original story, it is knit-together in such a way as to keep you on your toes for the entire duration of the movie. Mischa Barton and Devon Sawa both give solid performances, but it is Brenden Meers who carries the weight of the movie on his shoulders, and he does so with ease. The film is recommended, especially for anyone who enjoys a good supernatural thriller.

A Resurrection is a 2013 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.9.
