A Little Romance is a romantic comedy-drama movie released in 1979. Directed by George Roy Hill and starring Laurence Olivier, Diane Lane, and Thelonious Bernard, the movie tells the story of two young lovers who embark on a journey of adventure and romance. The movie begins with an introduction to the main characters; Daniel Michon (Thelonious Bernard), a young French boy living in Paris, and Lauren King (Diane Lane), an American girl who has moved to Paris with her mother. Daniel is a precocious and imaginative young boy, fascinated with stories of adventure and romance. Lauren, on the other hand, is a young girl who struggles to fit in with the other children at school and has a strained relationship with her mother.

One day, Daniel and Lauren meet at the Seine river and strike up a conversation, leading to a romantic connection. Daniel, who is a great admirer of the romance between Romeo and Juliet, envisions himself and Lauren as the legendary lovers. He tells her about a legend of a bridge in Venice, which, if two people kiss while sailing under it in a gondola at sunset, they will be granted eternal love.

Enchanted by Daniel's imagination, Lauren agrees to go with him to Venice to kiss under the bridge. However, their parents disapprove of their plans and try to break them apart. Lauren's mother, fearing she will lose control over her daughter, decides to send her back to America. Daniel hatches a plan to run away with Lauren to Venice, and after a series of misadventures on the train, they finally make it to Italy.

Upon arriving in Venice, Daniel and Lauren enlist the help of a retired British actor, Julius Santorin (Laurence Olivier), who becomes their mentor and guide to the city. Santorin takes a liking to the young couple and agrees to help them carry out their plans. He lends Daniel his gondola to sail under the bridge, and they make their way through the canals of Venice.

The scenes in Venice are beautifully shot, capturing the essence and romance of the city. The young couple's love story unfolds against the backdrop of the stunning Italian landscape, making the movie a visually appealing experience.

As they sail under the bridge, they get caught up in a traffic jam of other gondolas, and they fear they might miss the sunset. However, fueled by their young love, they manage to evade the other gondolas and make it to the bridge just in time for the sunset. They share a kiss, and Daniel's wish for eternal love appears to come true.

The movie ends with the trio of Daniel, Lauren, and Santorin saying their goodbyes as they part ways. Lauren returns to America, and Daniel stays in Venice, promising to come back for her when he's older.

A Little Romance is a heartwarming, charming movie that appeals to audiences of all ages. The performances by the cast are excellent, particularly Thelonious Bernard, who portrays the enthusiastic and imaginative Daniel with infectious energy. Olivier, in one of his later roles, is delightful to watch as the aging British actor who rediscovers his passion for life and love through the young couple.

The movie's themes of young love, adventure, and the power of imagination are timeless and endearing. The enchanting setting of Venice adds to the movie's appeal, making it a must-watch for anyone looking for a charming and uplifting romantic movie.
