In A Diva's Christmas Carol, Vanessa Williams plays Ebony Scrooge, a successful but famously difficult pop star who is estranged from her family and friends due to her ego and selfishness. On Christmas Eve, she is visited by the ghost of her former singing partner, Marli Jacob, who was also her best friend before she died in a car accident caused by Ebony's recklessness. Marli's ghost warns Ebony that if she doesn't change her ways, she will end up as lonely and bitter as Marli was in life.
Ebony thinks Marli's ghost is a hallucination brought on by stress, but she is soon visited by three more ghosts: Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Future. They take her on a journey through her past, present, and potential future, showing her the impact her actions have had on others and the potential consequences of remaining selfish and arrogant.
Through these visions, Ebony sees the heartbreak she caused her family when she refused to join them for Christmas dinner, preferring to attend a fancy party with other celebrities. She also sees the sacrifices her manager, Bob Cratchit (played by John Taylor), has made for her career and how he has put up with her tantrums and demands despite his own struggles at home. In the present, Ebony sees how her current behavior is driving away her backup singers, including her former best friend, Charity (played by Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas of TLC).
Despite initially resisting the ghosts' messages, Ebony gradually realizes that she needs to change if she wants to avoid Marli's fate and find true happiness. She starts by apologizing to her family and inviting them to join her for Christmas dinner. She also reconnects with Charity and offers to help her achieve her own dreams of becoming a solo artist.
One aspect of the movie that sets it apart from other adaptations of A Christmas Carol is its contemporary music and setting. Vanessa Williams sings several original songs throughout the movie, including "Heartquake" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Chilli also performs a new song, "Grown-Up Christmas List." The movie features glamorous costumes and sets, as well as cameos from other famous musicians including Patti LaBelle and TLC member Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins.
Overall, A Diva's Christmas Carol is a heartwarming holiday movie with a relatable message about the importance of kindness, generosity, and forgiveness. It offers a fresh take on a classic story and showcases the talents of its cast, particularly Vanessa Williams in the lead role. The film provides a reminder of what the holiday season is truly about, and it's a great choice for viewers who want to get into the spirit of the season while enjoying some great music and a fun story.
