A Christmas Wish is a heartwarming holiday film from 1950 that is sure to put you in the Christmas spirit. The movie stars legendary entertainer Jimmy Durante, Terry Moore, and Tom Drake. It was originally released with the title The Great Rupert. The movie takes place in the small town of Junctionville, where a struggling family is living in a tiny apartment with their daughter Rosalinda (Terry Moore). Her father, a struggling musician, is left without work after his trumpet is stolen, and her mother has to take on extra work to make ends meet. However, despite their difficulties, the family remains close-knit and optimistic.

One particularly bleak Christmas season, the family is surprised to find a squirrel named Rupert who has stowed away in their Christmas tree. What they don't realize is that Rupert is no ordinary squirrel: he has a talent for collecting money and hides his loot in the branches of the tree. Unbeknownst to the family, Rupert's cache has grown over time as he has pilfered from other sources in his neighborhood.

Soon, the family begins to notice that they have more money than they need, and they are puzzled as to where it is coming from. When they eventually discover Rupert's stash in their tree, they are ecstatic but also torn about what to do with the unexpected gift. They realize that they could use the money to help others in their community who are suffering, and they make the decision to give back to those who need it most.

Meanwhile, a group of actors that Rosalinda's father used to work with approaches him with a chance to perform in a new show, and he is thrilled at the opportunity. However, he also knows that he can't fulfill his dream without a new trumpet, which he can't afford. Rosalinda hatches a plan to sell her beloved childhood doll, which she thinks will bring in enough money to buy her father's new instrument. However, when a local wealthy man learns of Rosalinda's sacrifice, he allows the town to use his airplane hangar for a charity benefit without rental charge, and the event ends up exceeding all expectations.

As everything comes full circle, the townspeople discover the true source of the money that has done so much good for the community. Rupert, the squirrel, is caught up in the excitement of the charity event and is ultimately found out. The family is sad to lose Rupert, but they understand that he has helped them in more ways than they could have imagined.

In summary, A Christmas Wish is a lovely family film that is perfect for the holiday season. It is a reminder that the best gifts aren't always material and that the warmth of the holiday season comes from the love and kindness you share with the people around you.
