This documentary takes a fond look at the roots and traditions of chazzanut, the Jewish music of worship, through the eyes of Jack Mendelson of the Cantor’s Assembly as he explores the roots and traditions of this Eastern European art form. Sung in temple, chazzanut also found expression in early Yiddish cinema and theater. This style of singing, which is done without musical accompaniment, requires special vocal techniques and continues to have a profound influence on Jewish culture.
