10 Years is a heartwarming movie that revolves around a group of high school friends who reunite ten years after they graduated. The movie takes place over the course of one evening, as the group comes back together for their high school reunion. The film begins by introducing us to the various characters and their current lives. There's Jake (Channing Tatum), who is now a successful musician; his girlfriend Jess (Jenna Dewan), who is a successful dancer; and their friend Marty (Justin Long), who is now a writer. We also meet Cully (Chris Pratt), who is still the class clown; Reeves (Oscar Isaac), who has become a successful businessman; and Elise (Kate Mara), who is a doctor.
As the group gathers together for the reunion, old tensions and feelings begin to resurface. Jake is forced to confront the fact that he still has feelings for his ex-girlfriend Mary (Rosario Dawson), who is also attending the reunion. Jess, meanwhile, is struggling to come to terms with the fact that Jake's musical career is taking him away from her.
The rest of the group has their own issues to deal with as well. Cully is still trying to impress everyone with his antics, even though he feels like he hasn't accomplished anything in life. Reeves is struggling with the weight of his success, and whether or not it's truly what he wants. And Elise is dealing with a personal tragedy that has left her feeling lost and alone.
As the night goes on, the group begins to reconnect and catch up on old times. They reminisce about their high school experiences and realize just how much they have all changed. They dance, they drink, they laugh, and they even get into some arguments. But through it all, they are reminded of the bond they share, and how much they mean to each other.
One of the most impressive things about this movie is the way it handles its large ensemble cast. With so many characters to follow, it would be easy for the movie to feel disjointed. But instead, it gives each character their own moment to shine, and shows us just enough of their current lives to make us care about them. The result is a movie that feels like a true ensemble piece, with no one character hogging the spotlight.
Another standout element is the movie's soundtrack. With Jake being a musician, it's no surprise that music plays a big part in the movie. The film is peppered with great songs, both original and well-known, that help set the mood and tone of each scene. And Channing Tatum's own musical performances are a highlight.
But what really makes this movie work is the emotional depth it manages to achieve. By the end of the film, we feel like we know these characters intimately, and their struggles and triumphs feel real and earned. The reunion setting also lends the film a bittersweet quality that adds to the overall emotional resonance.
In the end, 10 Years is a movie about the power of friendship, and how it can endure even after a decade apart. It's a funny, poignant, and ultimately uplifting film that will leave you with a smile on your face.
