TYT which stands for The Young Turks is more commonly known as a commentary style news YouTube channel that has accumulated over 2 billion views as of July 2014. Hosted by Cenk Uygur, TYT was founded in 2002 as a Sirius Satellite Radio talk show.
TYT is the self-acclaimed largest online news show in the world with a global outreach of more than 1,4000,000 a day as of November 2014. The show primarily focuses on social commentary of current news events and is an American liberal based program. During 2011, a TV show called "The Young Turks with Cenk Uygur" was started up on the channel Current TV. However, the show was promptly cancelled after the news outlet Al Jazeera America acquired Current TV.
TYT primarily focuses on American politics that range from climate, police, drugs, money, religion, abortion, human rights and other various issues. In 2014, TYT received a $4 million investment from the Roemer, Robinson, Melville & Co., LLC. The majority of the funding for the network comes from YouTube ad revenue and approximately 1/3 of their revenue comes from their online subscriptions.
The network today consists of 24 different shows aimed at different issues and some shows being specifically aimed at Canada such as Truth Mashup. TYT won the Podcast Award in the political category in 2009 and also received the Mashable Open Web Award in the same year for the best political news site.
