Ten, also called Channel Ten and Network Ten, has been in operation in Australia for over fifty years. The first few years of operation brought difficult financial times and it was uncertain as to whether or not the network would succeed. It wasn't until the airing of an adult soap opera called Number 96 that the network drew mass numbers of viewers, and gained financial stability.
Network Ten has evolved gradually over the past five decades. With its headquarters, in Pyrmont, New South Wales, its broadcast areas include, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, and Brisbane. Its affiliates include Southern Cross Ten, and Prime/WIN. Ten programming is fiber-fed through standard definition.
Ten offers numerous genres of programming for adults: comedies, news, lifestyle, drama, entertainment, sports, and reality. At times in Ten's history, there have been controversies over their adult programming resulting in legal issues and censorship. Ten is a major broadcaster of Australian sports and covers the National Basketball League and Austrian Football League. It has outstanding news programing. Some children's programs include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Matt Hatter Chronicles, Julius Jr., and Tree Fu Tom.
