The Right Network, backed by actor Kelsey Grammer, was an on-demand TV network, which promoted content expressing conservative, right wing ideals. The start-up company was intended to target Americans who desired programming that was in line with their conservative ideals and view-point. The station was purported to include new, original television material that supported the U.S. government, military and business sectors. Promotional material announced that the new station would focus on more than mindless entertainment, instead seeking to actively engage viewers by challenging them to think about what they were watching.
The Network’s producers stated that they were looking to help inform viewers through well-developed, quality content that was in line with a conservative worldview. The network backers stated that they were fighting to provide a perspective that had been lost due to the largely liberal portrayal of events and history presented in the media. It was intended that the content would be made available on the internet with platforms developed for mobile devices in addition to television on-demand stations. The developers of the network sought to create media content which was positive in nature. The motto used for the network, intending to convey this message was, What’s Right with America.
The Right Network was quickly put together and an announcement of its launch was made in the summer of 2010 with a launch date three weeks later. The network was less popular than expected and stopped broadcasting after only ten months on the air. During its short time on the air the network produced such shows as Grace Before Meals, Drive Through History, and the critically acclaimed Warriors in their Own Right, a show about the ideals of the founding fathers in regards to military service.
