New Video is an extremely eclectic television channel that doesn't shy away from controversy. Cinedigm owns the channel, and provides a number of different programs to it. Educational storybook segments are provided by Scholastic, and contrast sharply with some of the other material broadcast on the channel.
During the MLB season, New Video has a tendency to show baseball games. It doesn't look like they follow a set schedule, but they do their best to provide a number of games before the playoffs. They supplement these with movies from Arthouse Films and Plexifilm during the week.
Select independent releases often show up on New Video, and this includes the Sundance Film Festival movie Bobby Fischer Against the World. Movies like Hot Coffee, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Purple Violets and Super Size Me have all made an appearance. In addition to this, the channel has sometimes shown older documentary footage like a 1967 Bob Dylan introspective.
Executives from New Video have been trying to diversify their offering even further by providing animated content. Happy Tree Friends is an international flash cartoon series that's famous for juxtaposing gentle forest scenes with content that's considered questionable. It seemed to fit the already unusual programming found on New Video.
They've also opted for some safer choices as well. Digimon reruns have been heavily in rotation on the network, and they're attracting a pretty good audience. The same goes for reruns of Yu-Gi-Oh!, which have become popular again with fans of Japanese animation. The channel has been exploring further animated options through its relationship with the Flatiron Film Company organization.
