HDTVs and, more recently, UHD (4K) screens have made the fastest game on ice a lot easier for viewers to follow. But better resolution displays are not the only reason.
If anything, the game of hockey is getting faster; to keep pace, coverage is getting more sophisticated. You can find the action on media devices of every size, portable and fixed, but all have one thing in common: the NHL Network. Nowhere else can you get the same in-depth coverage of your favorite team, playing your favorite game.
Since its launch in October, 2007, the NHL Network has carried games and other programming for the 30 major league teams, including the iconic Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts. The network also presents NCAA Hockey and American Hockey League telecasts, some of them on tape-delay.
If you miss a game, watch the highlights. Not the 30 seconds (if you’re lucky) that the standard sports reports and cable outlets provide -- real highlights. Every noteworthy play gets mentioned, every big shot and dangerous chance gets its spotlight moment.
And NHL Network is the best place to catch the big hits -- maybe even see an occasional fight -- but because the producers and on-air talent are so hockey-savvy, flashy plays share time with more subtle contributions from skaters and coaches. Nor will you miss a minute of the behind-the-scenes action that can determine your team’s fortunes, in the short- and long-term.
It’s all there for the hockey fan in you.
