Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation, commonly known as simply MBC, is a South Korean broadcast network that grew out of the Busan Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation, which began broadcasting in 1959. MBC is currently one of four South Korean networks, and it broadcasts its programming via satellite and cable networks. In 2001, MBC launched MBC America, a foray into the US market that was based in Los Angeles, with an aim to expand its programming reach into other parts of the country; the network's programming is currently available in Chicago and Atlanta, as well as in Los Angeles.
MBC programming includes a vast slate of drama, romance and comedy series, as well as news, variety and documentary programming. In addition to over-the-air and cable broadcasting, MBC America makes much of its programming available for on-demand live streaming via the internet, both through subscription services such as AT&T's Uverse and online content providers such as Hulu. MBC programming on Hulu is accessible without a paid subscription to Hulu's premium Hulu Plus service, but viewers without a subscription can't watch the programs on mobile devices.
