Only seven and a half years old, the UK’s Left Bank Productions has an impressive array of television series and feature films to its credit. In July 2007, with backing from BBC Worldwide, Andy Harries--former drama, comedy, and film guy at Granada Productions--launched the company along with two of his colleagues. Guided by Harries’ vision of intelligent scripts and inspiring creativity, Left Bank got off to a good start with a turnover of 5.5 million British pounds its first year.
It won a production vision award from the UK Film Council in December 2008, and various awards have followed. Award-winning TV series in Left Bank’s repertoire include Wallander and Father & Son. Sketch show School of Comedy helped launch Harries’ son Jack Harries’ career, as well as that of Will Poulter, who went on to star in films such as The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Another popular series is Outlander, which launched last year and features a time-travelling World War II nurse. It won a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Cable Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show this past January.
Current projects include feature films Another Brick in the Wall, about the children from the Pink Floyd song, and Gaza, about a Jewish doctor; and The Crown, a series cowritten by Queen Elizabeth II herself, set to premiere in 2016.
