Hulu was originally conceived as a joint venture of AOL, NBC Universal, Facebook, MSN, Myspace, and Yahoo! Hulu came to life in 2007 as a platform on which corporate content creators could stream their program catalogs. Hulu is currently a joint project of the Walt Disney Company, 21st Century Fox, Comcast and AT&T. It still features content owned by those corporations.
Hulu has created original content that streams exclusively on the Hulu platform. The most successful Hulu original to date has been The Handmaid's Tale. This adaptation of Margaret Atwood's novel won several Emmy Awards in 2017.
Notable recent Hulu originals include the Stephen King-produced Castle Rock and the historical soap opera Harlots.
