Hollywood Records, Inc. is the Disney Corporations record label. The American company produces music primarily in the pop, country, rock, hip-hop and alternative genres. Many of their artists also have another connection to Disney, such as Zendaya and Sabrina Carpenter both being actresses in Disney Channel shows. They are also the main producer of soundtrack albums for Disney and Marvel movies.
The company acquired the North American distribution rights to Queen’s catalog of songs in 1990. This was one of their first steps away from the soundtrack market. Their first production success was the 2003 release of Hilary Duff’s first album. By utilizing other Disney owned properties like Radio Disney and the Disney Channel they found a promotion method that they use to this day. They were judged to be successful when albums from Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and others achieved gold and silver status.
Hollywood Records titles are marketed and distributed in North America, Latin America,, India and Asia by Universal Music Group. In Japan this is done by Avex. In Europe, the Middle East and Africa distribution is handled by EMI, a partner of Disney in the areas. Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez & the Scene and several other Hollywood artists have also signed with Universal Music UK’s Fascination Records.
