History Television is a digital media channel based in San Francisco, California. It features content that is originally produced and licensed to other production companies throughout the country and the world. The genres of the shows are mainly about history, though some shows are fictional and some are based on real life. The channel was founded in 1988 when Harry Cruchet returned home from a trip around the world. He had met with many historians on his trip, namely in Egypt, that inspired him to dig deeper into the ancient mysteries of the world. After approaching various producers in the film industry, he finally made a deal with Howard Feinberg to produce the first episode for History Television called Egypt: Land of Kings.
Originally, History Television was only a small operation that employed six people, but over the years it has grown to become an international company with over 400 employees worldwide including actors, producers, marketers, writers, and prop professionals. The channel's current tiles include Land of the Lost, Blue Horizon, and Hot Summer. Land of the Lost details the journey of the men in the desert led by Lawrence of Arabia. The setting is a hot desert in which poisonous snakes and scorpions abound. The men must rely on their courage and motivation in order to cross the desert and face their enemy. Blue Horizon is a reality television show that features six marine biologists who must live in a small submarine together three weeks. Its first episode aired in 2014.
